Vestfold og Telemark ferry routes & schedules

Ferry travel here splits between coast and canal. The Vestfold and Telemark coast has its skerry-hopping passenger boats around Kragerø, but the region's signature journey is inland: the vintage steamers of the Telemark Canal, gliding through a 19th-century staircase of hand-built locks.

About

Ferry travel in Vestfold og Telemark

The Telemark Canal

The Telemark Canal is one of Norway's most distinctive boat journeys — a 105-kilometre waterway climbing more than 70 metres through a series of historic locks between Skien and Dalen, opened in 1892 and once called the eighth wonder of the world. Heritage vessels such as the M/S Victoria make the slow, scenic passage in season, a world away from a functional fjord crossing. It's a day-long experience to plan a trip around, not a quick hop.

The Kragerø skerries

On the coast, passenger boats work the Kragerø archipelago — a scatter of low, pine-covered islands that has drawn Norwegian summer visitors and artists for generations. These local boats link the town with its island communities and holiday quays, busiest through the summer season, and most are quick foot-passenger crossings.
