Ferries from Kviteseid brygge

Kviteseid connects to Fjågesund in 60 minutes over 8.7 nautical miles and to Lårdal in 95 over 9.3 — a similar distance taking half as long again, because the Lårdal leg passes through the Kjeldal and Hogga chambers on the way.

Three sailings a week on each leg, with departures at 08:35, 10:10, 15:20 and 16:20. The service ends in the first week of September.

Kviteseid is on the lake of the same name in the middle of the canal system, and the old village a little way off has a stone church from around 1150. This is the Telemark of the folk-music revival and the rose-painted farmhouse interiors — the district was studied and collected from in the nineteenth century as the most authentically Norwegian place the national romantics could find.
