About
About Farte
Farte is the public transport authority for Telemark in southern Norway, and its ferries serve two very different waters: the tight archipelago around Kragerø and the wider fjord at Brevik.
The Kragerø archipelago
These are some of the shortest crossings on this site. From Kragerø the boats reach Skåtøy (2–8 minutes), Bærø/Gulodden (3–5 minutes), and continue between Tåtøy, Furuholmen and Kirkeholmen. Frequencies are high — around 30 sailings a day on the busier legs — because these islands are lived on year-round, not just visited in summer.
At Brevik, the Sandøy ferry crosses in 10 to 13 minutes.
Seasons differ by boat — check yours
Farte does not run one summer timetable across the network, and the dates do not line up:
- Kragerø ferries: summer timetable 20 June – 16 August.
- Løvøy (the island-hopping boat at Brevik): runs only 27 June – 2 August.
- Sandøy: the same timetable all year.
- Summer bus timetables run 22 June – 18 August, a different window again.
Tickets
Ferry tickets are not sold in the ordinary transport app. Farte uses a separate app called Farte Ferge for boat tickets, so a bus ticket or the main planner will not get you aboard. Timetables for the current season are published as PDFs and in the Farte journey planner.
