About

About Hogga sluse

Hogga's two legs could hardly be more different: Kjeldal is 0.7 nautical miles away at 25 to 30 minutes, Fjågesund 10.5 miles at 70 to 80. The short one takes almost half as long as the long one.

Seven sailings a week on each. Departures at 11:10, 12:20, 13:20 and 13:50 put all four movements into a three-hour block in the middle of the day.

Above Hogga the canal opens into Flåvatn and the boats run on open lake water rather than through chambers, which is why the Fjågesund leg covers fifteen times the distance in three times the time. This lock is the last of the climb from Skien — everything beyond it is lake, as far as Dalen at the top of the system.
