About
About Kolumbus
Kolumbus is the public transport authority for Rogaland in south-western Norway, and behind its buses runs one of the country's most scenic boat networks — the fast catamarans and car ferries that stitch together Stavanger, the Ryfylke fjords and the islands off the coast.
Fjords, islands and city commutes
The showpiece is the Lysefjord — the sheer-walled fjord beneath Preikestolen (Pulpit Rock) and Kjerag, reached by Kolumbus boats and the Lysebotn ferry. Out in Ryfylke, car ferries such as Forsand–Lauvvik and fast boats connect the mainland to fjord villages, while the Utsira ferry runs out to Norway's westernmost island community. Closer to home, small commuter boats link Stavanger with its city islands — Vassøy, Steinsøy and Langøy — and with Hommersåk across the bay.
Tickets and a greener fleet
Fares are zone-based: for the Stavanger–Byøyene–Hommersåk city boats you travel on a normal ticket bought in the Kolumbus app or on a Kolumbuskort, while tickets for the longer Ryfylke, Lysefjord and Utsira routes are bought through billetter.kolumbus.no. Kolumbus has also put itself at the front of maritime decarbonisation: in 2022 it introduced Medstraum, the world's first fully electric fast ferry, on its Stavanger city route.
