Ferries from Lysebotn hurtigbåtkai

Håheller is 4.1 nautical miles down the fjord and the boat covers it in ten minutes — the fastest leg on this route, on water hemmed in by walls over a kilometre high. Thirteen sailings a week each way, from 07:00 to 18:15, under three day patterns.

The season ends on 31 August. After that the fjord's inner end has no scheduled service at all.

Lysebotn sits at the head of Lysefjorden with the Kjerag plateau above it, and the road out climbs the wall behind the village in 27 hairpins through a tunnel that spirals inside the mountain. That road is closed by snow for much of the year, which is why the boat and the road share a season: for several months the village is reached, if at all, by water.
