About

About Mekjarvik ferjekai

Mekjarvik north of Stavanger runs to Kvitsøy in 35 minutes, with 28 sailings from 05:25 to 23:00, operated by Kolumbus. Kvitsøy is the smallest municipality in Norway by area — a cluster of low islands at the mouth of the Boknafjord with a few hundred residents. The ferry is its only public link. The Rogfast tunnel project will eventually connect Kvitsøy to the mainland road network by a branch of the undersea tunnel, which would make this one of the crossings due to disappear. Kvitsøy's lighthouse and its pilot station have guided traffic into the Boknafjord for centuries, and the island still hosts the maritime pilots for the region.
