About

About Nedstrand ferjekai

Nedstrand ferjekai serves the old fjord village of Nedstrand in Tysvær municipality, tucked into the inner reaches of Ryfylke on the north side of the Boknafjord in Rogaland. It is one of several call points on the long Ryfylke car-ferry route rather than a simple point-to-point crossing, so the quay works as a link in a chain of communities strung along the fjord.

The service here is the Ryfylkeferja, Kolumbus route 580, which runs the length of the fjord between Stavanger and the inner Ryfylke villages, calling at quays such as Judaberg, Nedstrand, Jelsa and Hebnes. From Nedstrand you can sail out towards the city or deeper into the fjord, depending on the sailing, making it a genuine lifeline connection for residents as well as a relaxed way for visitors to reach the walking, fishing and orchard country of inner Ryfylke.

This is a full car ferry – you can bring a car, camper or bike aboard, not just travel as a foot passenger. The route is worked by Kolumbus vessels including the M/F Ryfylke, Kolumbus's first fully electric ferry, which has room for around 99 passengers, 27 cars and a couple of trailers, with Norled operating the sailings on Kolumbus's behalf. It runs year-round.

Fares use AutoPASS for Ferry: vehicles are registered automatically by plate and billed afterwards, and it pays to be a registered AutoPASS customer for the discount. Note that on this route the nearby stop at Nesheim cannot be booked by ordinary passengers – travellers heading that way are instead directed to the Finnøy–Helgøy connection. Timetables vary by day of the week and not every sailing calls at every quay, so it is worth confirming that your chosen departure actually stops at Nedstrand before you set out.
