Ferries from Sauda hurtigbåtkai

Sauda hurtigbåtkai is the express-boat quay at the head of the Saudafjorden, in the town of Sauda at the far northern end of Ryfylke, Rogaland. This is the terminus of the Kolumbus hurtigbåt (express boat) from Stavanger — the boat that threads the whole Ryfylke fjord system before arriving here after roughly 2 hours 15 minutes. It is a passenger-only service running all year; the fast boats do not take cars, so travel to Sauda by boat as a foot passenger and arrange onward transport in town.

Sauda is a fjord-head town with a distinct double character, and the quay reflects it. On one side it is an industrial place: the Sauda smelter, established in 1915 and today an Eramet plant, is one of the world's significant producers of refined ferromanganese for steelmaking, and it has shaped the town for over a century. On the other side, Sauda is a mountain and winter destination — Sauda Skisenter is regarded as one of south-west Norway's best ski resorts, and in winter the fjord approach doubles as the scenic way in for skiers (Rødne even runs a dedicated ski boat from Stavanger).

From the quay, the express boat connects back down the fjord to Sand, and via the network to Ropeid, Jelsa, Hebnes and the outer stops toward Stavanger. At Ropeid the sea route meets the Kolumbus bus line 150 (Sauda–Ropeid–Ølen), giving Sauda a second, overland link out toward Ølen and Haugesund in addition to the water route. That makes the town reachable either by a full fjord sailing or by a boat-and-bus combination.

The landing is a working town quay rather than a large passenger terminal; tickets are bought through Kolumbus (app or on board), and sailings are limited to the express-boat timetable — typically a small number of departures each day — so confirm current times before you travel, especially outside peak season. For anyone heading to the inner Saudafjord for skiing, hiking, or the town itself, this quay is the end of the line and the main arrival point by sea.
