FRAM Schedules 2026

FRAM is the public transport authority for Møre og Romsdal, the county on Norway's north-west coast where the fjords cut deepest inland. Its ferries are not tourist attractions but road links: crossings that stand in for bridges on the county and national road network, running every 20 to 40 minutes from early morning to late evening.

The main crossings

The busiest links are Molde–Furneset (about 33 minutes), Halsa–Kanestraum (20 minutes), Hareid–Sulesund (23 minutes), Festøya–Solavågen (20 minutes) and Magerholm–Sykkylven (15 minutes). Each runs 60 to 85 times a day in each direction.

Eidsdal–Linge is the one most visitors meet: a 13-minute crossing on the road to Geiranger, and the reason the Golden Route works as a drive. It is short, frequent and busy in summer.

🔑 Passengers travel free — vehicles pay

This is the thing that surprises visitors most. On the county ferries of Møre og Romsdal, foot passengers travel free of charge. What is priced is the vehicle. Some crossings are free for vehicles too (gratissamband), a result of Norwegian policy on lifeline routes.

From 1 May to 31 August a sommartakst — summer tariff — applies to vehicles on every county ferry, including the otherwise free crossings. On paying routes the summer rate sits ten fare zones above the ordinary one; on free crossings it matches the zone that applied before the route became free.

There is a way out of it, and it rewards regular users. Journeys count towards an exemption per crossing across the whole period: once you have made four trips on a given route, the summer tariff stops applying there for the rest of the season — a free crossing goes back to being free, a paying one back to its ordinary fare. You always pay for those first four, and the vehicle must be registered to a qualifying travel agreement for the trips to count.

Timetables and tickets

Summer timetables run from 22 June to 16 August, with substantial changes on some routes and minor adjustments on others; services return to normal patterns afterwards. Fares elsewhere in the network are zone-based, and tickets are bought through the FRAM app, the online shop, terminals or on board.

FRAM plans and funds the routes; the vessels are operated under contract by shipping companies such as Fjord1 and Norled. Timetable and fare questions therefore belong with FRAM rather than with the company whose name is on the ship.
