About the Linge ferjekaiEidsdal ferjekai crossing

The ferry runs all year; the road it belongs to does not. This crossing carries Fylkesveg 63, the Geiranger–Trollstigen National Scenic Route, and two sections of that road — Langvatnet to Geiranger, and Trollstigen itself — close from roughly early November to late May for snow and avalanche risk. Turning up in April with a plan built from a summer map is a common and expensive mistake.

Sixty-six sailings on a thirteen-minute hop

Fifty-nine departures run every day between 07:00 and 23:00, over about 1.4 nautical miles of the Norddalsfjorden — itself a sixteen-kilometre arm of the Storfjorden. At that frequency the crossing behaves less like a ferry and more like a moving section of road.

Capacity is the real limit in July

The boats take roughly 20 to 30 cars and up to 150 passengers. On a scenic route in high season those numbers fill quickly, and the practical effect is a wait of one or two sailings rather than a cancelled journey — frequency absorbs the queue where capacity cannot.

The early and late extras

Beyond the daily core, two sailings run Monday to Friday from 06:30, one at 08:45 runs Monday to Saturday, another at 08:40 runs at weekends, and a 23:30 departure runs on Saturdays alone. The edges of the day are where the day patterns diverge.

Vehicles, pets & onboard

  • FRAM app tickets
  • Zone-based fares
  • Battery-electric ferries
  • Car ferries for vehicles

Vehicle space is available on this route — book early, especially in peak season. Onboard facilities and vehicle, pet and luggage policies vary by operator and vessel; confirm details with the operator before booking.

No, it's entirely within Norway.

What's the sailing frequency per day?

66 sailings a day on this route.

What time is the last sailing?

Sailings run from 06:30 to 23:30.

How long is the ferry ride?

How much does a ticket cost?

Can I do this as a day trip?

A day trip is often possible: with a crossing of about 13m and several sailings a day (first 06:30, last 23:30), you can return the same day. Always check the return timetable before you go.

Does the ferry run all year?

Sailings run daily, and frequency can change between the summer and winter seasons. The timetable above shows the latest published departures — confirm with the operator for off-season dates.

Can I take a pet on this ferry?

Most ferry operators allow pets on this route, usually in a carrier, on deck or in designated pet areas or cabins, and registered assistance dogs travel free. Rules and any fees vary by operator and vessel — check with FRAM, so declare your pet when booking.

What's the luggage allowance?

Foot passengers can normally bring their own luggage aboard at no extra charge, with racks or a luggage area near the entrance, and there is usually no airline-style weight limit. Oversized or excess items may carry a fee, so check with the operator if you are travelling with bulky baggage.
