About

About Baleària

Baleària is Spain's leading ferry company to the Balearic Islands and a pioneer of cleaner-burning ships in the Mediterranean. Founded in 1998 by Adolfo Utor out of the collapse of the earlier operator Flebasa, it has grown from a handful of boats into a fleet of some 34 vessels spanning three continents.

Islands, the Strait, and the Caribbean

The core network runs from the mainland ports of Dénia, Valencia and Barcelona to Ibiza, Palma de Mallorca, Menorca and Formentera. Across the Strait of Gibraltar, Baleària sails Algeciras to Tanger Med and Ceuta, and serves the enclave of Melilla; further afield, its Baleària Caribbean arm runs Fort Lauderdale to the Bahamas. In 2026 it also took over the Canary Islands network.

LNG pioneer

Baleària has invested over €500 million in dual-fuel LNG ships and low-emission technology. Its fast ferry Eleanor Roosevelt (2021) was the world's first powered by natural-gas internal-combustion engines, with "smart-ship" systems on board; sister vessels Marie Curie, Hypatia de Alejandría and others carry the names of pioneering women. Fares, quoted in euros, span reclining seats to cabins on the longer overnight crossings and vary by route and season.
