Albania ferry routes & schedules — Adriatic crossings to Italy

The Adriatic crossing between Italy and Albania is one of the Mediterranean's fastest-growing ferry corridors, driven by the large Albanian diaspora in Italy, a tourism boom on the Albanian Riviera, and heavy road-freight traffic. Nearly all sailings are ro-pax, carrying cars, campervans and motorcycles alongside foot passengers — making the ferry the natural choice for anyone bringing a vehicle, which is impractical by air.

The main routes

The backbone is Bari to Durrës, running year-round with up to around 20 weekly departures shared by Adria Ferries, GNV and Ventouris Ferries, taking roughly 8 to 10 hours. From central Italy, Ancona to Durrës is a longer overnight option of about 16 hours with Adria Ferries. Further south, Brindisi to Vlorë is the short, fast gateway — as little as 4.5 hours with Red Star Ferries, or around 8 hours with European Seaways. The historic Trieste–Durrës long-haul is currently suspended.

Ports and seasons

Durrës is Albania's largest passenger port (around 1.5 million passengers a year) and the country's maritime front door; Vlorë blends the Adriatic and Ionian and is served mainly from Brindisi. Peak season runs mid-June to early September, when frequencies rise and cabins sell out early. Overnight crossings with cabins are standard on the longer routes, while the short Brindisi–Vlorë hop can be a seat-only day sail.

Visa and entry

Albania is an easy entry for most Europeans: EU/EEA citizens travel visa-free for up to 90 days in any 180 and may enter with a national ID card. Note that Albania is an EU candidate country, not part of the EU or the Schengen Area — a Schengen visa does not cover Albania, and its visa-free status does not grant Schengen access.
