Adria Ferries exists for one corridor: Italy to Albania. Founded in 2004 and based in Ancona, it built its business on a route that most Mediterranean operators ignore — the crossing between the Italian Adriatic coast and Durrës, Albania's main port, forty kilometres from Tirana. The passengers are as much Albanian diaspora and returning families as they are holidaymakers, and the freight decks carry a large share of the trade between the two countries.

Two routes, two very different crossings

Ancona–Durrës is the long one at 16 hours, sailing three times a week through most of the year and daily between 1 July and 14 September. Bari–Durrës is shorter — nine or ten hours depending on the season — and runs every day year-round, mostly overnight, with an added daytime sailing in high summer and around the New Year. Both ports keep the same clock as Durrës, so the timetable needs no mental arithmetic.

Fares and what they include

Adria publishes a full tariff rather than hiding it behind a booking engine, which is unusual on this coast. From Bari a deck passage starts at €62 in low season and €108 in high; from Ancona it is €90 and €145. A reclining seat adds a few euros, cabins run from about €70 to €285 depending on route, season and whether the cabin is inside or outside. A car costs €104–216 depending on route and season, a motorcycle €46–90. Bicycles and animals travel free, and the company sells dedicated 'pet cabins' on both routes — a detail that matters on a sixteen-hour night crossing.

The fleet

Four ro-pax ships carry the service: AF Claudia, AF Marina, AF Mia and AF Pegasus. All are built for the mixed traffic this route generates — cars, coaches, motorhomes and freight trailers below, cabins and seats above. The company was an early adopter of exhaust scrubbers on the Adriatic.
