Ferries from Bari

Ask what Bari's main ferry route is and most answers name Greece. The timetable says otherwise: Durrës in Albania carries 28 sailings and three separate operators, more than every Greek route from this port combined.

⚠ Bari is the southern option, and it is shorter

For Greece, the choice is Bari or Ancona five hours further north up the Adriatic coast. Bari to Patras is about seventeen hours; Ancona to Patras is around twenty-three.

Whether that saving is real depends entirely on where you start. Six hours less at sea costs you five hours more on the Italian autostrada, and for anyone coming from northern Europe that is a losing trade.

The Albanian corridor

Three operators on one route is unusual and tells you what this crossing carries: family travel, migrant labour movement in both directions, and freight, running all year rather than for a season.

It also means competition on price, which the Greek routes from here do not have to the same degree.

The port and the city

The terminal is northwest of the old town, roughly a twenty-minute walk or a short bus ride from Bari Centrale station. Foot passengers manage it easily; it is not one of the ports where you need a car to reach the ship.

Season

Durrës runs year round and hard. The Greek services thin considerably outside summer, and Cephalonia in particular is close to a seasonal-only connection.
