Tánger Med to Barcelona Ferry

The Tanger Med to Barcelona ferry is a direct sea link between northern Morocco and Catalonia, operated by Grandi Navi Veloci (GNV). It is one of the main long-haul crossings connecting Morocco with the Spanish mainland and, via GNV's wider network, with Italy.

The crossing is a genuine overnight-plus voyage. Depending on the vessel, weather and port traffic, sailing time runs from about 24 hours 30 minutes at its fastest to around 30 hours, so most passengers travel with a cabin. GNV deploys large modern ferries on the Morocco–Spain corridor — vessels such as GNV's cruise-class ships carry up to roughly 2,500 passengers and offer restaurants, bars, lounges and cabins for the long passage.

Frequency is year-round but modest: GNV typically runs about two to three departures per week, increasing in July and August and during school holidays when demand from travellers and the Moroccan community in Europe peaks. Sailing times shift with the season, so the timetable should be checked for the specific travel dates.

The Moroccan port, Tanger Med, sits about 40 km northeast of Tangier city near Ksar es-Seghir and is one of the Mediterranean's busiest cargo and passenger hubs; it is well connected to Tangier and the wider region by shuttle and road. In Spain, ferries arrive at the Port of Barcelona, within easy reach of the city centre and its onward rail and air links.

This route carries vehicles — cars, motorcycles and campers — alongside foot passengers, making it a practical option for those driving between Morocco and Europe. As an international EU–Morocco crossing, a valid passport is required for all travellers, and Moroccan exit formalities plus Spanish (Schengen) entry checks apply.
