Barcelona to Tánger Med Ferry

The Barcelona to Tanger Med ferry is the southbound leg of Grandi Navi Veloci's (GNV) Spain–Morocco corridor, carrying passengers and vehicles from Catalonia across the western Mediterranean to northern Morocco. It is the direct maritime option for travellers heading from mainland Spain to the Tangier region without driving down to the Strait of Gibraltar.

This is a long crossing. GNV's fastest sailings cover the distance in around 24 hours 30 minutes, while the typical door-to-door time is closer to 30 hours, and some services run longer still depending on the vessel and conditions. As with the reverse direction, a cabin is the sensible choice for a comfortable overnight-plus voyage; GNV's ships offer cabins, restaurants, bars and lounges.

Departures from the Port of Barcelona have generally left across the day, with morning and afternoon sailings depending on the season. Frequency is seasonal: expect around three to four crossings per week in summer (roughly June–September), tapering to as few as one sailing per week in the low season (October–May). The route carries vehicles — cars, motorcycles and campers — which makes it especially useful for the summer flow of travellers and the Moroccan diaspora driving home, letting them skip the long overland route through southern Spain.

The arrival port, Tanger Med, lies about 40 km northeast of Tangier city near Ksar es-Seghir and is a major Mediterranean gateway with onward road and shuttle connections to Tangier and beyond. Because this is an international EU–Morocco crossing, every traveller needs a valid passport; Spanish exit and Moroccan entry formalities apply on arrival, along with vehicle documentation for those bringing a car.
