Nador to Barcelona Ferry

The Nador to Barcelona ferry is the long-haul option for travellers heading from eastern Morocco directly to Catalonia, avoiding the road journey up through Spain from the Alborán ports. It sails from the Beni Ensar passenger terminal near Nador to the Moll de Ponent ferry terminal in the Port of Barcelona.

The route is operated exclusively by Grandi Navi Veloci (GNV), using large cruise-ferries built for extended Mediterranean crossings. Because it is a full open-sea passage rather than a short strait hop, GNV runs it as an overnight-plus service with proper cabin accommodation, restaurants, bars and lounges on board.

Crossing time and frequency

This is one of the longest ferry crossings between Morocco and Spain. Sailing time runs from roughly 27 to 33 hours depending on the vessel, routing and weather – more than a full day at sea. GNV typically schedules around five weekly connections with afternoon departures. Cabins are strongly recommended given the duration, and vehicle decks take cars, motorhomes and motorcycles.

Peak season

Seasonal service. Frequency and demand peak during the summer, when the route carries a large share of the Moroccan diaspora travelling to and from north-eastern Spain and southern France during Operation Marhaba. Off-season, sailings are reduced, so schedules should always be checked for the specific travel dates.

Documents

As an international Morocco–EU crossing, all passengers require a valid passport. Drivers must carry vehicle registration and insurance (green card); Moroccan exit and Spanish entry checks are carried out at the ports, and travellers should allow extra time for boarding given the size of the ships.
