Barcelona to Nador Ferry

The Barcelona to Nador ferry is the long-haul option for reaching north-eastern Morocco directly from Catalonia, avoiding the long drive south to the Andalusian ports. It connects the Port of Barcelona (boarding at Moll de Sant Bertran, the Terminal Ferry Barcelona) with Nador's port of Beni Enzar. As a crossing between Spain and Morocco it is fully international: all passengers clear passport control, and non-EU travellers must carry a valid passport.

A crossing of almost a full day

Unlike the short Alborán Sea hops from Almería or Motril, this is one of the longest scheduled ferry crossings in the western Mediterranean. Sailing time runs roughly 27 to 30 hours, essentially an overnight-plus voyage, so cabins are the practical choice rather than seats. The distance means the ship spends a full day at sea tracing the Spanish coast before crossing to the Moroccan shore.

Operator and seasonal schedule

The route is operated by GNV (Grandi Navi Veloci). It runs year-round but on a thin, seasonal calendar: typically about one departure per week in low season (roughly October to May) and up to two per week in high season (June to September), when diaspora demand peaks around Operation Marhaba. Departures from Barcelona are generally in the morning or early afternoon.

Vehicles and onboard comfort

The ship accepts cars, motorbikes, motorhomes, vans, caravans and trailers, making it popular with families relocating or holidaying with a loaded vehicle. Because the voyage lasts about a day, GNV offers cabins in several classes plus reclining seats, restaurants and bars. Travellers with a vehicle are advised to arrive at the terminal around four hours before departure to complete check-in and security. Given the limited weekly frequency, booking early is, and schedules should always be reconfirmed with the operator.
