Nador to Almería Ferry

The Nador to Almería ferry links eastern Morocco's Rif coast with Andalusia across the Alborán Sea, the reverse of the busier Almería–Nador leg. Departures leave from the Beni Ensar terminal just north of Nador, a modern passenger facility (around 6,000 m², with capacity for roughly 2,700 travellers) that reopened as the main gateway for Moroccans living abroad in the Oriental region.

Two operators share the route. Baleària runs the crossing with fast ro-pax tonnage, while Naviera Armas (marketed on some sailings as AML) provides additional frequencies. Between them, sailings run most days of the week – Baleària typically offering around seven weekly rotations and Armas more – often departing late in the evening (around 23:00–23:59) for an overnight arrival in Almería the next morning.

Crossing time and vessels

Sailing time varies by vessel and weather. The quickest fast-ferry departures cross in roughly 5 to 5½ hours, while conventional overnight sailings take closer to 7 to 8 hours. Ships carry cars, motorhomes, motorcycles and freight, with reclining seats and cabins on the longer night crossings.

Peak season

Strongly seasonal demand. This route is at the heart of Operation Marhaba (roughly 5 June–15 September) and Spain's coordinating Operación Paso del Estrecho, when the Moroccan diaspora travels home for the summer. In July and August frequencies rise sharply – up to three daily departures – and vehicle decks fill fast, so booking well ahead is.

Nador–Almería is an international crossing between Morocco and the EU. All passengers need a valid passport, and drivers must carry vehicle registration and a green card; Moroccan exit and Spanish entry formalities are completed at the port.
