Barcelona to Ciutadella Ferry

Ciutadella sits at the western tip of Menorca, and sailing straight into its narrow historic harbour is the fastest way to reach that side of the island. Arriving here avoids the long drive across Menorca from the capital, Maó, on the east coast, so it is the natural choice if your accommodation or the beaches you want are in the west, such as Cala Galdana, Cala Macarella or the resorts around the town itself.

Fast ferry to the west of the island

The direct service is run by Baleària with a high-speed catamaran, covering the crossing in about 3 hours 30 minutes. Departures from Barcelona have generally left in the late afternoon, around 16:30. The route operates year-round, with at least one daily sailing and up to three departures a day at the height of summer, so it is a good deal more flexible than a purely seasonal link.

An important detail is the routing. Baleària runs Ciutadella as part of a combined Barcelona–Alcúdia–Ciutadella corridor. Some days the ship sails direct to Ciutadella; on others it calls first at Port d'Alcúdia in Mallorca before continuing to Menorca, which lengthens the journey. Because the call order changes by day of week, it is worth checking whether your chosen sailing is direct or via Mallorca.

On board and vehicles

As a daytime catamaran, the vessel offers reserved seating, a café-bar and outdoor deck space rather than cabins. It carries cars, motorbikes and vans alongside foot passengers. Menorca's other conventional ferries from Barcelona mostly serve Maó on overnight sailings, so if you specifically want western Menorca by day, the Ciutadella fast ferry is usually the better fit. Timetables shift with the seasons, so confirm the current schedule and routing before you book.
