SeaJets

SeaJets is a Greek high-speed ferry operator that runs fast catamarans and fast monohull vessels across the Aegean Sea, linking the mainland ports of Athens (Piraeus, Rafina and Lavrio) with the Cyclades, Crete and other Greek islands. Founded in 1989 (originally as Dolphin Sea Lines) by the Iliopoulos family and headquartered in Piraeus, SeaJets has grown into one of the largest high-speed fleets in the Aegean, best known for short crossing times to popular island-hopping destinations such as Mykonos, Santorini, Paros and Naxos.

Routes & islands served

SeaJets sails mainly from the Athens-area ports of Piraeus, Rafina and Lavrio, and also operates from other Greek ports including Heraklion (Crete), Volos, Kavala and Thessaloniki. Its network is concentrated on the Cyclades, with additional links to Crete, the Sporades and the North Aegean. Popular destinations include:

• Crete: Heraklion (and Rethymno)

The high-speed fleet

SeaJets operates a fleet of roughly 29 vessels, dominated by high-speed catamarans alongside some fast monohull and conventional ferries. Well-known ships include WorldChampion Jet, Tera Jet, Champion Jet 1 and Champion Jet 2, Power Jet and Mega Jet. The service is primarily passenger-focused, though many of the larger vessels also carry cars and vehicles (some of the bigger ships take several hundred cars each), while the smallest fast catamarans are passenger-only.

Seasonality & the meltemi

SeaJets is a heavily seasonal, summer-focused operator. Most routes run from about April to October/November, peaking with frequent daily crossings between June and September; winter service is sharply reduced or paused. Because the fleet relies on fast, lightweight vessels, departures are sensitive to strong winds — the seasonal northerly meltemi that blows across the Aegean in summer can cause delays or last-minute cancellations, particularly on more exposed Cyclades crossings.

Because high-speed ferries sell out quickly in peak summer and are the most weather-sensitive option, travellers are advised to book early, allow buffer time for onward connections, and check departure status on windy days.
