Ferries from Paros

Paros is the busy crossroads of the Cyclades, and its main harbour at Parikia — the island's whitewashed capital, built around the Panagia Ekatontapyliani (Church of a Hundred Doors) — is where nearly every ferry ties up. Sitting almost dead-centre in the archipelago, Paros is the island most travellers use to change boats, which is why the quay can feel like a small transport hub in July and August, with high-speed and conventional vessels arriving within minutes of each other.

From Parikia you can reach the mainland and most of the Cyclades. Blue Star Ferries runs the classic large car-and-passenger boats up to Piraeus (Athens) in around four hours on the Piraeus–Syros–Paros–Naxos–Ios–Santorini line, while high-speed operators SeaJets, Fast Ferries and Golden Star Ferries cut the Athens run to well under three hours on catamarans and monohulls. Southbound, the Paros–Santorini connection runs year-round with up to eight crossings a day in summer (Parikia to Athinios, roughly 1.5 to 3 hours depending on the boat), and there are frequent hops to Mykonos, Ios, Naxos and Heraklion in Crete.

The Paros–Naxos shuttle deserves a mention on its own: it is one of the shortest and cheapest island hops in Greece, as little as 25 minutes on a fast boat and up to a dozen sailings a day in peak season, making the two islands easy to combine.

Note that Paros has a second port at Pounta, on the southwest coast, used only by the small open-deck car ferry that shuttles across the narrow channel to Antiparos — a seven-minute crossing running roughly every half hour through the day. A passenger-only boat also links Parikia directly with Antiparos town in about half an hour. Don't confuse the two Paros harbours when booking.

Parikia's port sits right in town, so you can walk off the boat into tavernas, hotels and the bus terminal; buses fan out to Naoussa, Golden Beach and the airport. Because summer demand is intense, reserve car-ferry space and popular high-speed seats well ahead, and always double-check which port — Parikia or Pounta — your ticket names.
