About the Schlüttsiel – Langeneß (Hallig) crossing
Hallig Langeneß is the longest of the Halligen, ten kilometres of grazing marsh barely a metre above the sea, with eighteen Warften strung along it and a narrow-gauge track instead of a road. The ferry from Schlüttsiel takes 105 minutes and calls at Hooge on the way, where it pauses long enough to unload.
Main-season sailings leave at 10:00 and 18:00 every day between 27 March and 1 November, arriving at 11:45 and 19:45. In the off season the boat runs five days a week — never Monday or Wednesday — and the Tuesday morning departure at 07:45 takes two hours rather than one and three quarters.
The fare is €11.30 single and €17.80 return, the same as for Hooge. There is no shop worth the name and no accommodation beyond a handful of guest rooms, so most visitors come for the day and leave on the afternoon boat. Everything about the timetable assumes you know that.
