About the SchlüttsielHooge (Hallig) crossing

Hallig Hooge is not an island in the ordinary sense: it has no dyke, and several times each winter the sea runs straight over it, leaving only the ten artificial mounds — the Warften — that the houses stand on. The ferry from Schlüttsiel takes 75 minutes and is the only scheduled way there.

Between late March and the start of November there are two sailings a day, at 10:00 and 18:00. From November the service thins to five a week and skips Mondays and Wednesdays entirely: Tuesday 07:45 and 12:45, Thursday 10:00 and 18:00, Friday 12:45 and 18:00, Saturday 10:00, Sunday 14:00.

A single adult fare is €11.30, a return €17.80. The boat is the Hilligenlei, the smallest ferry in the fleet. Hooge can be crossed on foot or by bicycle, and horse-drawn carriages meet the boat — there is no bus, and visitors' cars are not usually part of the arrangement. Rail and bus connections to Schlüttsiel are listed at nah.sh.
