About the Koufonisi – Schoinousa crossing
Thirty minutes of open water separate Koufonisi from Schoinousa. The Express Skopelitis makes the crossing westbound every morning except Sunday, but at one of two times: 08.20 on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, 10.40 on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays.
Two clocks, one ship
Koufonisi is one of the two harbours where the Skopelitis ties up overnight. On the mornings she has slept there, 08.20 is the first departure of her day and the timetable allows 35 minutes for the hop. On the mornings she has come up from Donousa she berths at 10.30, sails again ten minutes later, and the same leg is booked at 30 minutes.
Part of a chain, not a trip
Few passengers buy this crossing on its own. It sits in the middle of a run that goes Donousa – Koufonisi – Schoinousa – Irakleia – Naxos, and most people aboard are continuing to Naxos or stepping between neighbouring islands. From Schoinousa the ship leaves again after ten or fifteen minutes, so an unplanned stop here means waiting for the afternoon service back out.
