About the Donousa – Naxos crossing
Two day patterns and seven sailings a week: Blue Star Ferries on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, and Small Cyclades Lines on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday. Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday have nothing.
The journey times differ enormously — 70 minutes on one service and 220 on the other — because one runs direct and the other calls at the intervening islands. Departures are at 09:25 and 20:50.
Donousa is the most remote of the Small Cyclades, east of Naxos, with fewer than two hundred residents. Odysseus is said to have been held by Calypso here. Four days a week is the whole of its connection to the wider Aegean network, and which boat you take decides whether the trip is an hour or most of an afternoon.
Your destination
About Naxos
Naxos is the largest of the Cyclades and the most central, which makes it unusual among Greek islands: you can reach it up to seven times a day from Piraeus, and once there, Mykonos is 35 minutes away and Santorini a little over an hour. The ferry decision is not really where to go but which kind of boat — the fast craft that saves two hours, or the conventional ship that still sails when the wind gets up.
