Arrecife to Las Palmas Ferry

This is the workhorse inter-island link between Lanzarote and Gran Canaria, tying the port of Arrecife to Puerto de la Luz in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. It is operated by Naviera Armas (part of the Armas Trasmediterránea group), using conventional ro-pax ferries rather than the small fast catamarans found on shorter island hops. Expect ships such as the Volán de Tinamar, Volcán de Tamadaba and Ciudad de Valencia — full-size vessels built to carry passengers, cars, campervans and freight lorries in the same crossing.

Crossing times vary noticeably with the vessel and any intermediate call. The quickest sailings run in around 6 hours 30 minutes on the faster ships, while slower rotations — particularly those that thread through other Canary ports on a longer chain — can stretch to roughly 10 hours. Because of that spread, it pays to check the specific departure rather than assume a fixed duration.

Frequency is markedly seasonal. Through the summer peak (roughly June to September) sailings are more numerous, at around eight or nine departures per week, easing back to just a couple of weekly crossings across the quieter autumn-to-spring months. Departures from Arrecife are typically spread across late morning to early evening.

On board you will find reserved-seat lounges as standard, with private cabins available on the longer rotations — useful if you are travelling with a vehicle and want somewhere to rest. The large garage decks make this a practical option for anyone relocating a car between the islands or touring both Lanzarote and Gran Canaria on a single trip, avoiding the cost and hassle of hire cars on each island. Booking ahead is strongly advised in summer, when vehicle space fills first.
