About

About Navigazione Laghi

Gestione Governativa Navigazione Laghi is the Italian government body that runs the public boat services on the three great lakes of northern ItalyLake Como, Lake Maggiore and Lake Garda. Scheduled steamer service on the lakes dates to the 1820s; the State took over the war-damaged private companies in 1948 and formally constituted the Gestione Governativa in 1957, under the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport.

Boats, car ferries and historic steamers

Across the three lakes the service blends everyday transport with tourist excursions: passenger boats, fast hydrofoils and car ferries link Como, Bellagio, Varenna and Menaggio on Lake Como; Stresa, Verbania and the Borromean Islands on Lake Maggiore; and Desenzano, Sirmione and Riva del Garda on Lake Garda. The fleet still includes rare working steam heritage — the 1925 paddle steamer Concordia, the only Italian paddle steamer in regular service, on Como, and the restored 1904 steamer Piemonte on Maggiore.

Tickets

Fares are zonal and distance-based, in euros, with day passes and free-circulation tickets and separate vehicle fares on the car-ferry crossings; buy online, in the DreamLake app or with NaviTap contactless payment onboard. Across all three lakes the service carries around 11 million passengers a year.
