Ferries from Laveno

Laveno is the Lombard end of the Lake Maggiore vehicle ferry to Verbania-Intra — 86 sailings, a twenty-minute crossing, running around the clock. For anyone travelling between Milan's northern hinterland and the Piedmont lakeshore this is a genuine shortcut rather than an excursion: the alternative is to drive the length of the lake and back. The town has a rack railway up to the Sasso del Ferro above it, and the ferry quay sits directly below the lower station.
