About the Lårdal bryggeDalen brygge crossing

Two departures fifty-five minutes apart, and they belong to different boats. The 17:00 is the daily local service working back up from Spjotsodd. The 17:55 runs Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays and is the through-boat completing its run from Skien.

Forty minutes for 5.1 nautical miles

Under eight knots on the Telemark Canal. Dalen is the upper terminus, at the head of the Bandak lake, where the canal ends and the hotel that was built for it still stands.

The through service alternates

Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday the boat comes up the canal; Wednesday, Friday and Sunday it goes down, leaving Dalen at 08:00. The daily 17:00 is the shorter shuttle that runs regardless.

7 August to 3 October 2026

Eight weeks. The canal season is short and the through journey — eighteen locks and about a hundred kilometres from Skien — takes the better part of a day in either direction.
