About the Kapellskär – Långnäs crossing
Every Finnlines sailing between Sweden and Finland stops at Långnäs, and it is a destination in its own right, not just a pause — the harbour sits in Lumparland on the east side of the Åland mainland, about 30 km from Mariehamn.
Three departures a day leave Kapellskär: 10:30 on Mondays and Tuesdays, 10:45 the rest of the week, and 21:45 every night. The day boats reach Långnäs at 15:00 or 15:15, the night boat at 02:00. Because Åland runs an hour ahead of Sweden, the crossing takes 3½ hours rather than the 4½ the timetable appears to show — and the night run is quicker still, at about 3¼.
Finnsirius and Finncanopus, both 2023-built hybrids, operate the route. Check-in at Kapellskär opens two hours before departure and closes an hour before; drivers follow road sign C to the booths, foot passengers sign B to the terminal, and a shuttle bus takes them out to the ship.
