About the Anamur – Kyrenia crossing
The Anamur–Kyrenia (Girne) crossing is the shortest sea link between mainland Turkey and Northern Cyprus, and it runs only as a seasonal summer service operated by Akgünler Denizcilik. Anamur, on Turkey's central Mediterranean coast in Mersin province, sits at the closest point of the Turkish mainland to the island, which is why the fast ferry can cover the gap in roughly 1.5 hours (about 90 minutes to 1 hour 45 minutes) rather than the 2.5 hours needed from Taşucu further east.
The route is worked by the high-speed passenger craft Akgünler 3, a seat-only fast ferry with capacity for around 386 passengers. This is a foot-passenger service only — cars, motorcycles and other vehicles are not carried on the Anamur line; travellers needing to bring a vehicle to Cyprus use Akgünler's Taşucu–Girne RoPax sailings instead. Departures leave from the Anamur ferry port in the Yalıevleri district and arrive at Girne (Kyrenia) harbour in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.
For 2026 the currently published operating window is roughly early May through late June, with sailings on six days a week (every day except Saturday). Because it is a seasonal, demand-driven line, the exact start and end dates and the weekly pattern can be extended or trimmed year to year, so confirm the live timetable before booking. Fares are dynamic and rise with occupancy, starting around 2,000 TL one way.
Travellers should note that this is an international crossing into Northern Cyprus: a valid passport is required and passport/customs control is completed at the port. Tickets are sold through Akgünler's website and app, its port offices (Anamur, Mersin, Taşucu, Girne, Gazimağusa, Lefkoşa) and the call centre on 444 4364. Arrive well ahead of departure to allow time for border checks and boarding.
