About the Aliaga – Lesvos crossing
The Aliaga to Lesvos (Mytilene) ferry route, launched in the 2026 season, offers a brand-new sea connection between Aliaga, a district north of Izmir, Turkey, and Mytilene, the capital of Lesvos, the largest island in the North Aegean. This route is operated as a joint venture under the "Turyol Jalem" brand, combining the expertise of Turyol and Jalem Tur. It provides a strong alternative to the long-standing Ayvalik-Lesvos route, significantly benefiting travelers from Izmir, Manisa, and Aydin. Instead of a two-hour drive to Ayvalik, passengers can reach Aliaport Sea Passenger Port in Aliaga from central Izmir in just 30 minutes via the new highway. The sea journey between Aliaga and Mytilene Port covers approximately 60 kilometers and is completed in about 1 hour and 50 minutes (110 minutes) by fast catamarans. Daily return trips are available throughout the season, with departures from Aliaga at 08:00 and arrivals in Mytilene around 09:50. The return ferry from Mytilene Port departs at 17:30, allowing for approximately 7.5 hours on the island, ideal for day-trippers. The fleet consists of the Emine Jale (Jalem Tur) and K. Sevket Iyidere and Turyol Lesvos (Turyol), all fast catamarans equipped with comfortable seating, relaxation areas, and a cafeteria. Currently, the Aliaga-Lesvos route is for foot passengers only; vehicle transport has not yet commenced. However, the operator has announced plans to introduce services for cars and motorcycles within the season. For those traveling by car, the Ayvalik-Lesvos car ferry remains the only option for now. If you plan to leave your vehicle in Turkey, Aliaport offers a free car park with a 200-vehicle capacity. As an international crossing, passengers are advised to arrive at the port at least one hour before departure for passport and check-in procedures. No port tax is levied at Aliaport. Lesvos is part of Greece and thus within the Schengen Area. Therefore, a valid passport, Schengen visa, and travel health insurance are required for most travelers. Holders of Turkish green (special), grey (service), and black (diplomatic) passports are exempt from visa requirements, while ordinary (bordo) passport holders must obtain a visa. Seasonal express visa (door visa) conditions for the islands can vary, so it is advisable to check the latest requirements before your trip. Upon arrival in Mytilene, you'll find the city's main attractions, including Mytilene Castle, museums, and Ermou Street, within walking distance of the port.
