About the Alcúdia – Ciutadella crossing
The crossing from Port d'Alcúdia on Mallorca's north coast to Ciutadella in western Menorca is the shortest and most direct sea link between the two islands. Because the ports sit on the facing coasts of each island, this is the natural hop for travellers island-hopping between Mallorca and Menorca without doubling back to Palma.
Who operates the route
Baleària is the main operator, running its high-speed catamaran Margarita Salas alongside conventional tonnage such as the refurbished Jaume. This lets you choose between the speed of a fast ferry or the steadier ride of a conventional vessel. Menorca Lines also serves the corridor, and on the wider Ciutadella–Alcúdia axis you may see other operators listed.
Crossing time and frequency
The fast ferry covers the distance in about 1 hour, while conventional or slower services run closer to 1 hour 15 minutes. Baleària typically schedules around three sailings a day (roughly 20–22 per week), with morning and afternoon departures and extra double rotations at summer weekends. Winter frequency thins out, so always check the live timetable for your date.
Ports, vehicles and booking
Alcúdia's port is well placed for the north and northeast of Mallorca — Port de Pollença, Playa de Muro, Can Picafort and the Formentor area. Ciutadella lands you in Menorca's historic western capital. You can travel with a car, motorbike, pet and luggage, but vehicle deck space is limited and sells out fast in July and August. Balearic residents qualify for discounted fares. Book ahead in peak season, especially if you are carrying a vehicle.
