About

About Tirrenia

Tirrenia (Tirrenia di Navigazione) is one of Italy's historic ferry lines, founded in Naples in 1936. For most of the 20th century it was the state-owned flagship carrier to the islands; privatised in 2012, it is now run by Compagnia Italiana di Navigazione (CIN), part of Vincenzo Onorato's Moby group.

The lifeline to Sardinia

Tirrenia's core network connects the mainland with Sardinia — Genoa–Porto Torres and Civitavecchia–Olbia year-round, plus historic links to Cagliari and Arbatax — and it has long served Sicily (Naples–Palermo) and the Tremiti Islands. Many of these routes are operated under public-service continuità territoriale conventions that guarantee island connections.

Fleet and fares

The fleet is made up of large cruise-ferries and ROPAX ships — Bithia, Athara, Nuraghes, Sharden and Janas — carrying up to around 2,900 passengers and hundreds of cars; in 2017 four of them wore striking DC Comics superhero liveries. On board there are reclining seats and cabins, restaurants and vehicle decks; fares are in euros and vary by route and season.
