Snelandia Schedules 2026

Snelandia is the public transport brand of Finnmark county in the Norwegian Arctic — buses, car ferries and fast passenger boats reaching from Loppa in the west to Nordkapp in the north and Varanger in the east. Before you plan anything around the 391 departures listed here, there is one rule you need.

A ticket does not stop the boat

The operator states it plainly: holding a ticket does not guarantee you a place on board, and every fast-boat call must be booked in advance — otherwise the boat does not stop. This is not a courtesy request. On a coastline where a quay may serve a handful of households, the vessel sails past unless someone has asked for it. A departure time in a timetable, including this one, is a time the boat is available to call, not a promise that it will.

Which is why a quay like Akkarfjord exists in the data at all

Akkarfjord on Sørøya is a kombibåtkai — a combined-boat quay — and our data carries eight departures from Hammerfest and seven back, twenty-five minutes each way. The county announced during 2026 that calls at Akkarfjord could be booked on the Måsøyxpressen service. Read that alongside the rule above: the news was not that a new route opened, but that a stop became requestable.

The car ferries are the dense part

The heaviest traffic is on short fjord crossings that carry vehicles. Nyvoll to Korsfjord has thirteen departures, Øksfjord to Tverrfjord thirteen, Klokkarøy to Kjerringholmen eleven. All are ten to twenty minutes. Note that the quoted duration frequently differs by direction — Øksfjord to Tverrfjord is timed at 10 minutes, the return at 15 — so do not assume a return leg from the outbound figure.

And the long legs are where the county stops being road-connected

At the other end of the scale sit Bergsfjord to Øksfjord at 100 minutes and Øksfjord to Hasvik at 75, six departures each. Havøysund to Ingøy runs 45 minutes. These are not commuter hops; they are the link between a village and the rest of Norway, and they run a handful of times rather than hourly.

A seven-day ticket covers the buses too

Because Snelandia is one integrated county system, the Sommerbilletten allows unlimited travel for seven days across both the buses and the boats, on sale from 1 June. The journey planner is published as an app under the name Reiseplanlegger 177 Finnmark, 177 being the Norwegian traffic information number, and there is a separate mobile ticketing app.

Three languages, and the third one matters

The operator publishes in Norwegian, English and Davvisámegillii — Northern Sámi. Finnmark is Sámi core territory, and a county transport authority producing its timetables and travel rules in the language is a reflection of who is actually using these boats, not a gesture.
