Ferries from Korsfjord ferjekai

Korsfjord is a ten-minute crossing in western Finnmark that saves a very long drive round the Altafjord. 26 active sailings, and the shortest link in a county where most crossings are measured in hours.

The crossing

Korsfjord to Nyvoll takes about 10 minutes, with 13 sailings in our timetable and 26 across the quay in both directions. Operated by Snelandia, the Finnmark county transport authority.

Snelandia's other crossings run to Hasvik at seventy-five minutes and Bergsfjord at a hundred. This one is an outlier, and the frequency reflects it — thirteen departures rather than three.

What it replaces

The road around the head of the Altafjord adds a substantial detour on a route where alternatives are few. Ten minutes of water against an hour or more of driving is the whole argument for the service.

What is at the quay

A slipway and the road. Alta, the county's largest town, is the nearest place with services — and the reason much of this traffic exists.

Practicalities

No reservations, arrival order, AutoPASS billing by registration, foot passengers free. On a ten-minute crossing a missed sailing costs very little.

Season

Year round. Polar night runs from late November to late January at this latitude, and winter weather cancels sailings — less often on a sheltered ten-minute run than on the open-water routes further out.
