Korsfjord ferjekai sits on the western shore of the Altafjord in Finnmark, in the far north of Norway, and is the mainland-side link for the short car-ferry crossing to Nyvoll. It serves the scattered coastal settlements around Korsfjord and Talvik west of Alta, connecting a stretch of shoreline that would otherwise face a long detour by road around the fjord. This is a genuine working ferry for a remote district, not a tourist attraction, and the quay is a functional one — there is a village shop nearby (Korsfjord Handel) and toilet facilities, but little else.

The route is a proper car ferry: vehicles, locals and the occasional camper roll straight on and off the deck, and the crossing over the Altafjord to Nyvoll takes roughly a quarter of an hour. Nyvoll, on the far side, lies along highway Fv883 and connects onward to the Alta area by road and bus. The service belongs to Snelandia, the public-transport brand of the Troms og Finnmark county authority, which coordinates the region's ferries; the daily sailings are handled under contract, and the operating arrangements for this route were renewed under new county contracts taking effect at the start of 2026.

Two practical points matter here. First, the crossing is currently free of charge — Norway has removed tolls on ferry links carrying under 100,000 passengers a year, and this quiet Finnmark route qualifies — so there is no ticket to buy, you simply queue and board. Second, this is Arctic Norway, where sailings are spaced through the day rather than frequent, and winter weather, darkness and the occasional cancellation are part of ordinary life. Plan around the posted timetable rather than assuming a boat will be along shortly, leave margin if you have an onward bus or appointment in Alta, and check for weather-related changes in the colder months. For residents of the Korsfjord side the ferry is simply the road; for visitors it is a short, scenic Arctic fjord crossing that happens to cost nothing.
