Ferries from Øksfjord hurtigbåtkai

Six destinations, and the road reaches none of them. Øksfjord's express boat quay serves the Loppa islands — Nuvsvåg, Sandland, Bergsfjord, Loppa itself — communities in western Finnmark where the boat is not a convenience but the entire connection.

Where the boats go

• Hasvik on Sørøya — about 45 minutes.
• Bergsfjord and Sandland — about 50 minutes.
• Storekorsnes — about 55 minutes.
• Loppa — about 1 hour.

Finnmark county operates all of these and publishes the hours. We have not ingested them, so what you see above is a map of where the boats go and nothing about when.

Go to the county for the times, and be specific about the date. Up here the summer and winter schedules are separate documents rather than seasonal variations on one, and using the wrong one strands people every year.

Two landings, and the wrong one is useless to you

A few hundred metres away, the Øksfjord car ferry quay handles vehicles to Hasvik, Bergsfjord and Tverrfjord. Three destinations, with a deck. This quay has twice as many destinations and no deck at all.

Both landings answer to the same village name on a ticket. Turning up here towing a caravan is a wasted morning.

Loppa

The island the municipality is named after now has a population in single figures, having once supported a church, a school and a fishing community. The boat still calls.

That is the clearest statement of what this network is for: it does not run because the traffic justifies it.

Season

Year round in principle. This is open Arctic water at nearly 70 degrees north and cancellations are routine — never plan a same-day onward connection.
