2GO Travel is the Philippines' national ferry network — the long-haul operator that ties Luzon, the Visayas and Mindanao together with overnight and multi-day sailings. Where the fast craft of the Visayas hop between neighbouring islands in a couple of hours, 2GO runs the routes measured in nights: Manila to Cebu, Manila to Cagayan de Oro, Manila to Davao.

Where 2GO sails

The network runs from 20 ports and covers 66 scheduled directions. Manila is the hub by a wide margin, with sailings to fifteen destinations; Batangas serves six, and Cebu, Cagayan de Oro, General Santos and Davao four each.

The ports are Manila, Batangas, Cebu, Bacolod, Iloilo, Cagayan de Oro, Davao, General Santos, Zamboanga, Dumaguete, Dipolog (via Dapitan), Ozamiz, Butuan (via Nasipit), Tagbilaran, Roxas, Odiongan, Caticlan, Coron, Puerto Princesa and Siargao. Several are gateways rather than destinations in themselves — Caticlan for Boracay, Coron and Puerto Princesa for Palawan, Dapitan for the Dipolog area.

What the sailings are like

These are ships rather than fast craft, and the journeys are long: Manila to Cebu runs around a full day, Manila to Cagayan de Oro closer to a day and a half, and Manila to Davao is a multi-day passage. That changes what you book — accommodation classes matter more than departure times, and most passengers travel overnight in berths rather than seats.

Because the routes are long and the ports many, a single sailing often calls at several places on the way. Check whether your booking is a direct sailing or one with intermediate calls, as the difference can be several hours.

2GO sells through its own site and through agents across the archipelago. Book early around Philippine holidays — Holy Week, Christmas and the long weekends move enormous numbers of people between the islands, and the overnight sailings fill first.

Manila to Davao City is timetabled at 3,660 minutes — sixty-one hours, two and a half days at sea. Nothing else in this data comes close. Manila to Cagayan de Oro is 2,340 minutes (39 hours), Manila to Iloilo 1,800 (30 hours), and Manila to Cebu 1,440 — exactly a full day.

At these lengths the ship is a moving hotel and the fare buys accommodation as much as passage. The pattern is a hub: almost every route we hold runs to or from Manila, with departures spread from 09:00 to 23:59 so that arrival falls at a workable hour two or three days later.
