Trieste to Igoumenitsa Ferry

The Trieste to Igoumenitsa ferry is the northernmost of the Adriatic crossings between Italy and Greece, extending the long-haul network up to Trieste at the very head of the Adriatic. Unlike the passenger-only Istrian catamarans, this is a full overnight ro-ro ferry that carries cars, motorcycles, campers and freight alongside foot passengers, with cabins and reclining seats for the long voyage.

Operator and vessels

The route is operated by Minoan Lines, part of the Grimaldi group, with large cruise-ferries such as Cruise Europa and Cruise Olympia. As of 2026 Minoan Lines' Adriatic operations sit fully within Grimaldi, which also markets sister sailings under the Grimaldi Lines brand.

Route, timing and frequency

Trieste is the far-northern departure point of the Italy–Greece corridor, so this is a long crossing of roughly 27 to 31 hours to Igoumenitsa, considerably longer than the Venice or Ancona departures further south. Trieste is linked with Igoumenitsa and Patras about three times a week. Igoumenitsa is usually an intermediate call, with most sailings continuing on to Patras in the Peloponnese.

Ports and onward travel

Ferries leave the port of Trieste and dock at Igoumenitsa in northwestern Greece, the main gateway to Epirus, the Ionian coast and the island of Corfu, which lies just offshore. From Igoumenitsa road connections reach Ioannina and beyond, while onward ships serve the Ionian islands.

This is an international EU-to-EU crossing, so passengers should carry a valid passport or national identity card, and drivers need their vehicle registration documents for the car deck.
