Patras to Trieste Ferry

Patras, on the Peloponnese in western Greece, is the country's main gateway port to Italy, and the sailing from Patras all the way up to Trieste at the head of the Adriatic is the longest single ferry run on the Greece–Italy map. It stitches together the far south-west of Greece with the far north-east of Italy in one continuous voyage, and it is a serious long-distance crossing rather than a short island hop.

Ships on this line normally sail north out of Patras and make an intermediate call at Igoumenitsa — the shorter Greek port for the Adriatic — before continuing the long leg up to Trieste. That single stop lets passengers and freight from both western Greek ports share the same northbound sailing.

The service runs within the Grimaldi / Minoan Lines group's northern Adriatic network and is heavily freight and vehicle oriented (roll-on/roll-off). Because it combines the Patras–Igoumenitsa leg with the full run up to the top of the Adriatic, total journey time is around 30 to 32 hours, the longest of the regular Adriatic crossings. Departures are limited to roughly a few times per week, with days varying by season.

This crossing carries cars, motorhomes, motorcycles and trucks, and its length makes an overnight cabin worthwhile. It is best suited to drivers heading for northern Italy, Slovenia, Austria or beyond who want to minimise driving on Italian roads, and to freight traffic. Travellers wanting shorter or more frequent options should look at Patras–Ancona or Patras–Venice.
