Symi to Marmaris Ferry

The Symi to Marmaris route is an international crossing between the small Greek Dodecanese island of Symi and the Turkish resort town of Marmaris, on the coast opposite Rhodes. This is a short-haul, seasonal day-trip style connection rather than a mainline car-ferry service - it is served, when it runs, by small local catamarans and passenger boats, not large vehicle ferries.

Direct service is limited and seasonal

A direct Symi-Marmaris sailing is intermittent. Some Turkish day-trip operators advertise a direct fast catamaran in the warmer months, but the connection has been thin and demand-driven, and in many seasons there is no reliable direct boat. The dependable way to make the journey is usually via Rhodes: frequent catamarans link Symi with Rhodes in roughly 50 minutes to 1 hour 45 minutes, and a separate international line runs Rhodes to Marmaris (about an hour), giving a total transit of roughly 3 hours or more including the port transfer and border formalities. Always confirm whether a given date is a true direct sailing before booking.

Passport and border

Because this route crosses from Greece (EU/Schengen) into Turkey, a valid passport is mandatory and both exit and entry checks apply. Depending on nationality you may need a Turkish e-Visa or visa on arrival, and Greek exit control is carried out at the port.

• Season: Warmer months only, broadly late spring to autumn; no meaningful winter service.
• Boats: Small catamarans and excursion vessels - foot passengers only, no cars.
• Ports: Symi's harbour at Gialos, and Marmaris cruise/ferry port beside the marina.

Allow extra time for passport control on both sides, and treat this as a scenic border-hop rather than a fixed daily commuter link.
