About the Oanes ferjekaiLauvvik ferjekai crossing

This crossing lost its reason to exist in December 2019 and came back anyway. Until then the Oanes–Lauvvik ferry carried Riksvei 13 over the Høgsfjorden. When the 14-kilometre Ryfylke Tunnel opened, the through traffic went underground and the state service ended the same day. The roads on either shore were downgraded to county routes — Fv523 at Oanes, Fv508 towards Sandnes — and the fjord had no boat at all until a commercial operator restarted it, with an official opening on 8 June 2023.

Not a state ferry, so not AutoPASS

This matters at the quay. Norway’s road ferries bill vehicles through the national AutoPASS system; this one does not. Payment is taken on the quay or on board, by card or cash, and the vehicle fare covers up to five people: NOK 150 under 4 metres, NOK 180 to 6 metres, then 300, 640, 940 and NOK 1,290 for the 18–24 metre band. A motorcycle is NOK 100, a bicycle NOK 75, and walking on costs NOK 50 — half that for children, seniors and groups over ten.

Half-hourly, but the weekend starts three hours later

Departures leave Oanes every thirty minutes. Monday to Friday the first is at 06:00; on Saturday and Sunday nothing sails before 09:00. Both patterns stop at 18:30. There is no evening boat on any day, which is the sharpest difference between this crossing and the state-contracted fjord links further north, several of which run through the night. The passage is timetabled at 10 minutes.

Twenty cars, and a second boat when it fills

The vessel is certified for 20 car units and 60 passengers, raised to 97 under some conditions — small enough that a July queue is a real prospect. The operator puts a second ferry on when traffic demands it. Frequent users can register for a discount tier: 10% on sign-up, 20% above NOK 5,000 of annual spend, 33% through the app above NOK 10,000.

These are summer hours

The pattern above is the operator’s published plan for 1 June to 30 August 2026. A separate autumn timetable is issued rather than the same hours running year-round, so the winter shape — fewer sailings, and a midday gap on weekdays — is not what is listed here.
