About the Lauvvik ferjekaiOanes ferjekai crossing

Boats leave Lauvvik at quarter past and quarter to the hour. That fifteen-minute offset from the Oanes side is just the same vessel turning round, but it has a practical edge: a car reaching the quay on the half hour has missed one by a minute or two and waits almost the full thirty for the next.

The direction into Ryfylke

Lauvvik lies on the Sandnes shore, on what is now Fv508; Oanes is across the water in Strand, on Fv523. Both of those numbers are recent. This was Riksvei 13 until the Ryfylke Tunnel took the trunk route beneath the fjord at the end of 2019, after which the roads were reclassified and the crossing closed. What sails today is a commercial service revived in 2023, not a public contract — so it answers to passenger numbers rather than to a minimum service standard.

Six sailings that only exist on weekdays

The departures at 06:15, 06:45, 07:15, 07:45, 08:15 and 08:45 run Monday to Friday and not at weekends. From 09:15 onwards the half-hourly pattern applies on all seven days, through to the last boat at 18:45. Arriving at Lauvvik at eight on a Sunday morning means waiting for the nine-fifteen.

What it costs to get on

There is no AutoPASS billing on this route. You pay at the quay or on board, by card or cash, and one vehicle ticket carries five people: NOK 150 for a car under 4 metres, NOK 180 to 6 metres, rising to NOK 1,290 for a 24-metre rig. On foot it is NOK 50. The crossing is timetabled at 10 minutes and the current plan runs to 30 August 2026.
