About the Naha (Okinawa) – Kumejima crossing
Ninety-two minutes from Naha to Kumejima — that is the whole reason Kumejima Ocean Jet exists. The conventional car ferry on the same water takes three to four hours; the hydrofoil Tsumugi rises onto its foils and does it in an hour and a half.
Departures are at 08:00 and 13:10 on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays. On Tuesdays and Thursdays only the 08:00 runs. On Saturdays the morning boat goes north to Motobu instead, so the only Kumejima sailing that day is the 13:10.
Boats leave from the Naha Wharf passenger terminal (那覇ふ頭) — not Tomari, where most Okinawan island ferries dock, and the company warns about the confusion itself. Cars cannot enter the quay; use the paid parking nearby. Be at the port 30 minutes before departure, and finish check-in 15 minutes before or you may be left behind.
