Mahón to Barcelona Ferry

The Maó / Mahón (Menorca) to Barcelona ferry connects Menorca's capital and its long natural harbour with the Catalan mainland. Most services on this route are overnight conventional ferries, letting you sail while you sleep and arrive rested — a popular choice for travellers bringing a car or motorhome to or from the island.

Operators

Three companies work the Barcelona–Menorca corridor: Baleària, Trasmed (Acciona) and GNV (Grandi Navi Veloci). Between them they run up to around 26 departures a week to the Menorcan ports of Maó and Ciutadella, with the route operating year-round and typically two to four daily departures across all Menorca services combined.

Crossing time and departures

The overnight crossing to Maó takes about 8 hours 30 minutes with Trasmed and GNV, and around 9 hours on Baleària's conventional ferry. Departures are timed for a night sailing: Baleària tends to leave around 21:30, while Trasmed and GNV depart later, around 21:45 to 22:30 depending on the day. Because Maó lies at the eastern end of Menorca, sailings here are less frequent than to Ciutadella, so options can be limited on some dates.

Onboard and vehicles

These conventional ships carry cars, motorhomes, motorcycles, pets and freight, and offer cabins and reclining seats for the overnight leg — a cabin is well worth booking for a proper night's rest. Schedules can shift for operational or weather reasons, so confirm your departure with the operator before travelling, and reserve early in summer when both seats and vehicle space fill up.
