About the Cais do Sodré – Seixal crossing
Thirty-seven sailings a day over four nautical miles, taking 22 minutes, from 06.50 through to 23.15. Seixal carried 1.08 million passengers in 2025 — the third busiest of TTSL's five corridors.
What the catamarans changed
When catamarans replaced the older monohulls on this route, the company puts the saving at about 30% of the previous journey time, the same as on Barreiro and against 50% on the longer Montijo run. The hulls also matter for the estuary itself: TTSL cites reduced bank erosion as one reason for the type.
Terminals at both ends
Cais do Sodré opens 05.15 to 01.40 daily, with ticket machines throughout and staffed counters from 06.45 on weekdays. Both ends are being fitted with fast-charging towers for the ten new all-electric ships, which recharge during boarding rather than overnight. Onward from Seixal there is a Saturday-only crossing to Barreiro.
