Ferries from Southworth

Southworth is the Kitsap Peninsula corner of the Triangle — 163 active sailings, and the only one of the three where the boat can take you to two different places without doubling back.

Where the ferries go

• Fauntleroy in West Seattle — about 40 minutes, 44 sailings.
• Vashon Island — about 10 minutes, 37 sailings.

⚠ Ten minutes or forty, from the same dock

The Vashon hop is ten minutes; the Seattle run is forty. Both leave from here and the vessel is often the same one continuing round the loop, so a boat that appears to be going your way may call at the other point first.

The destination board is the only reliable guide. On a route this busy the penalty for guessing is a full circuit.

What is changing

Southworth is getting a new terminal building as part of the same programme rebuilding Fauntleroy. Like the other two Triangle terminals, it currently falls short of WSF's holding-capacity standard of 1.5 times vessel vehicle capacity.

Where this puts you

Southworth is on the southeastern Kitsap Peninsula, about twenty minutes from Port Orchard and forty from Bremerton. For anyone travelling between Seattle and the Kitsap Peninsula it competes directly with the Bremerton and Bainbridge crossings.

Which one wins depends on where you land, not on the crossing time — Colman Dock puts you downtown, Fauntleroy puts you in West Seattle.

Timing

Commuter-shaped with heavy Friday and Sunday loads in summer. Walk-on passengers avoid the queue that vehicles cannot.
