About

About Bainbridge Island

Thirty-five minutes from downtown Seattle, 38 sailings, and a terminal you can walk off into a village — Bainbridge is the busiest walk-on ferry route in Washington and functions as a suburb that happens to be an island.

The crossing

Bainbridge Island to Seattle takes about 35 minutes, with 38 sailings in our timetable and 76 across the terminal in both directions. Operated by Washington State Ferries.

⚠ Bainbridge is not a shortcut to the whole Kitsap Peninsula

The island connects to the mainland by the Agate Pass bridge at its north end. That works well for Poulsbo and the northern peninsula and badly for anywhere south — for Port Orchard or Bremerton, the Bremerton boat lands you far closer despite taking twice as long.

Choose by destination, not by crossing time.

Winslow

The terminal is at the edge of Winslow, the island's main village, and the walk from the ramp to shops and restaurants takes a couple of minutes. That is unusual: most WSF island terminals sit apart from anything.

It is why a large share of this route's traffic is on foot, and why the vehicle queue matters less here than at Fauntleroy.

What is on the island

Bloedel Reserve's gardens on the north end, the Bainbridge Island Japanese American Exclusion Memorial at Eagledale — the site from which the first Japanese Americans in the United States were forcibly removed in March 1942 — and a shoreline of coves and parks.

Timing

Weekday peaks run toward Seattle in the morning and back in the evening, heavily. Weekend traffic is more even and more of it is vehicles.
